Bayside Conference Football Week #1 Power Poll/Game Notes
1. Stephen Decatur (1-0)-The Seahawks won via forfeit by Queen Anne’s due a self-imposed penalty. The two did play in a controlled scrimmage on Wednesday. SD kicks off their season this week against a non-conference opponent that despite their record over the last few years the staff speaks highly of...Next Game: Friday vs. Reisterstown (Baltimore County)
2. Kent Island (1-0)-The Bucs defeated Parkside on the road 43-20 in a game that saw 5 turnovers in the first few minutes of the game and saw the strong Bucs defense yield to Parkside’s strong running game. The defense would eventually settle down but also benefitted from several Rams TOs. The game also saw the Bucs slinging the ball around in the air with new QB Gavan Henry which is opposite of the run heavy approach they usually employ. Henry was not only solid in the air but showed poise and extended plays with his legs. The O-Line with 3 new starters struggled at times in pass pro in giving up several sacks but also had some successes…Next Game: Friday vs. City (Baltimore City)
3. Queen Anne’s (0-1)-The Lions forfeited their first game of the season to Decatur as a part of a self-imposed penalty. They will kick off their season against a quality non-conference opponent to start the season…Next Game: Friday vs. Chesapeake-Anne Arundel
4. North Caroline (1-0)-The Bulldogs defeated Cambridge 28-14 in one of the intriguing Week 1 matchups. WB Tyson Weber had two TD rushes; WB Zymear Smith kicked off the game with one of his own. QB Nasai Bell had a scrambling 34yd TD. Caroline ran for 383 yards and 4 TDs in total. It appears Caroline is going to utilize Bell’s legs more this season. McMorris said the offense looked sloppy at times but executed at other times when they needed to. The NC defense got good pressure on the Vikings with 5 sacks of Blake LaBelle and held CSD to just 28 yards rushing as HC Nic McMorris told The Star Democrat that he thinks the defense has a lot of potential...Next Game: Friday vs. Parkside
5. Easton (1-0)-The Warriors defeated North East-CC on the road 38-6. Despite three turnovers in the first half the Warriors were still able to get out to a 21-0 lead thanks to QB Mikey O’Connor’s two TD passes (to 11 yds Zach Barnhart & 31yds to Colin Mooney) and a rushing TD. He finished 11-18 for 174yds. Two of those scores came within the last 3 minutes of the 2 nd quarter. Sam Noble started the second half with a 78yd KO for a TD to make it 28-0. Brandan Jenkins also had a rushing TD. Kyree Acree had an INT. North East-CC brought a lot of pressure on defense and the defensive line had some success in holding their own and getting their hands up on passes...Next Game: Friday vs. Wicomico (This is our ‘Friday Night Lights’ Game of the Week on 94-3 WINX-FM and the WINX-FM App)
6. Wicomico (0-1)-The Indians were shutout at home by a good Linganore (Frederick County) squad 40-0. The Indians were down 30-0 at the half…But Wi Hi was able to do some positive things in the game…The Indians did suffer an injury on the offensive line, more info to come...Next Game: Friday at Easton
7. Parkside (0-1)-The Rams fell to Kent Island 43-20. Canaan Mapp ended up starting at QB as Chris Morandi is unavailable due to an undisclosed injury for an undetermined amount of time. Maap only had a few days to get ready. The Rams turned the ball over five times which did them in, and in some cases where it appeared there were some plays to be had for the Rams. That said they were also able to do some nice things including striking in the air with TD catches from Cameron Johnson and Tavion DeShield. RB Eli Donaldson got the most carries and had some success. Mapp had a rushing TD…The offense backed up the defense with some of their TOs, so the 43 points were not all on them. The Defense was able to give the KI o-line some issues and got 5-6 sacks...Next Game: Friday at North Caroline
8. Cambridge-SD (0-1)-The Vikings fell to North Caroline at home 28-14. The Vikings got a Shaun Moody (Easton transfer) 70yd KO for a TD to cut a 21-0 deficit to 21-8. The Vikings would also score late. Despite the appearance of a one-sided win (at one point 28-8), I am told Cambridge and not surprisingly hung in there were tough and were flying around on the field. HC Toby Peer told me that he thought the defense played well as a whole but gave up chunk plays that hurt them partially due to missed tackles. NC was also able to convert some long 3 rd and 4 th downs. Complicating matters for the Vikings, some players were held out in the 1 st Quarter before returning in the 2 nd Qtr. In addition to the loss, RB/WR/SS Anthony Hughes, a 2-way starter was carted off in the game due to an injury and had surgery Saturday. His status for the rest of the season is unknown as of this writing...Next Game: Friday at Century (Carroll County)

Wenger for 22 yards and the other to Dominique Caven for a 36yds. Hammond also had a 3 yd TD run and all in the 1 st Qtr. On the defensive side Colonels OLB E.J. Jones had two fumble recoveries for a TD and each were from 43 yards out. The Colonels also got a 75 yd kickoff return for a TD from Chatydrick Pickrom. WBs Carter Turbitt had a 21 yd rushing TD and Jazir Dickerson had a 27-yard rushing TD. Kicker Morgan Demir was 3-4 on extra-points…The Colonels looked strong in the trenches and HC James Jackson said he rotated 5-6 RBs in the game and said while they don’t have a bruising back this season that the backs hit the holes hard…Next Game: Thursday at Woodbridge (Bridgeville, DE)
10. James M. Bennett (0-1)-The Clippers fell to Polytech (Woodside, DE) in a track meet 58-42. The Clippers lost the TO battle 3-1 including an INT in the endzone late and a botched snap over the punters head on special teams that gave Polytech the ball at the JMB 1 which they converted for a TD. QB Zakai Smullen had 17 carries for 167 yards and 3 TDs, he also had 59 yds passing a TD. RB Jorryn Smith had 16-109 and 1 TD, RB Jamereon Stevens 19 yds rushing, 44 yds receiving a TD to go along with 137 return yards and a TD. Lasinski also said the front seven didn’t do a good job of using the proper techniques in stopping the run. The Clippers also lost their top CB (and starting WB) Jimmy Morton early in the 2 nd Qtr. to injury and Polytech took advantage. Polytech’s QB got rid of the ball quick and negated the JMB pass rush and the secondary struggled. HC Greg Lasinski said there were definite strides you could see that have been made as compared to last season...Next Game: Thursday vs. Washington
11. Snow Hill (1-0)-The Eagles defeated Annapolis Area Christian 20-0 winning their first game under new Head Coach Raheem Hammond who also acts as their defensive coordinator. 12. Kent County (0-1)-The Trojans were unable to get revenge on Bo Manor as theyfell at home 42-6. Coach Thomas Somerville said the offensive line needs to do a muchbetter job blocking and that the defense was hurt with arm tackling and losing one on one battles. Their new freshman QB Dwan Harris, Jr. began slow but got more comfortable late in the game…Next Game: Friday at Arcadia (ESVA)
13. Washington (0-1)-The Jags lost their opener 57-0 to Colonel Richardson. HC Alec Meintzer said the Jags needed to tackle better, had issues at times making the right calls on the line, had exchange issues and didn’t convert on two fumble recoveries. However, when the execution was there the new triple option offense moved the ball. There were other incremental signs of progress that you need to see in overhauling a program...Next Game: Thursday at James M. Bennett
