Week 4 Capsule: We learned some more last week with the North Caroline-Wicomico and Queen Anne’s-James M. Bennet matchups. I felt Caroline, given the schedule they have played and improving to 4-0 deserved to be moved up. While obviously I still feel strongly about Queen Anne’s it was more about Caroline than about Queen Anne’s although a stronger win by the Lions may have kept them at #3 or given at least a strong consideration. That said Bennett is an improved team. Colonel Richardson obviously deserved to jump over Cambridge with the win, but it is so close given how close that game ended. While Colonel’s two losses are to good teams including Kent Island, Cambridge has a win over a 2A team in Parkside. I do not like ties, but you could still make an argument for that. Easton right now is trying to figure out a lot on offense including at QB and while their defense is still good, but it will likely suffer until the offense can get on track and with all the uncertainty that is why they got moved down. Losing to KI was not the reason they got moved down.

Power Poll/Game Notes
1. Stephen Decatur (4-0)-In very windy and later rainy conditions in Berlin due to a tropical storm, Decatur defeated Worcester County rival Snow Hill who also came in undefeated 39-0. Careen Bolden on the very first play of the game got the Seahawks on board with an 84-yard KO return for a TD. Later QB Brycen Coleman would have a rushing TD (also had a passing TD) as would Jamien Purnell. Backup QB Johnny Hobgood had a late TD pass to Ethan Bradshaw. K Brogan Eastlack hit a 21yd FG…HC Jake Coleman said it was the most intense wind in a game in which he had ever coached. He also said that despite the win the Seahawks had too many penalties that need to be cleaned up...Next Game: Thursday at Easton
2. Kent Island (4-0)-The Buccaneers won their four straight game this season and their 13th straight regular season game dating back to last year with a 35-0 win at home over Easton. The Bucs, who continue to display an efficient and productive passing game in addition to their power run game had success in the air again. Jr QB Gavan Henry went 13-22 for 190 yards and 2 TD passes (one each to Nathan Green & Jaxson Hess) both coming in a 21-point second quarter. RB Shane Bogardus had two rushing TDs as well…Next Game: Thursday at Wicomico
3. North Caroline (4-0)-The Bulldogs defeated Wicomico on the road last Thursday night 14-7. Both scores came in the last two minutes of the first half. QB Nasai Bell threw a 48-yard TD pass to WB Zymir Smith and CB Tyson Weber had a pick six for the other score. Despite the win HC Nic McMorris said the offense had too many mistakes and penalties and that the backs needed to block better…Next Game: Saturday at Queen Anne’s
4. Queen Anne’s (2-2)-The Lions defeated James M. Bennett on the road 16-0, the final score coming with just 22 seconds left. It was Queen Anne’s second straight win. While the defense has played well as expected the offense is averaging just 13 points a game, an area they will look to improve upon. It will be tough with this week’s matchup however…Next Game: Saturday vs. North Caroline
5. Wicomico (1-3)-The Indians fell at home on Thursday night to North Caroline 14-7. WiHi scored late in the game to cut the deficit to one score. The Indians would get the ball back and had one final chance to try and tie it or win the game, but the offense was intercepted inside their own 50-yard line. The Indians defense only gave up one score, the other came on a pick six thrown by the offense. WiHi can play defense but must be able to find a way to score points...Next Game: Thursday vs. Kent Island
6. Colonel Richardson (2-2)-The Colonels defeated fellow 1A foe Cambridge-SD for the third straight season this time 14-13 at home. Colonel had a long drive going on their third series in the 2nd quarter but a fumbled snap on 4th and 7 at the C-SD 9 turned the ball over on downs. Cambridge led 7-0 at the half thanks in part to good field position on a fumbled punt return by the Colonels setting up the Vikings in good field position…Colonel would respond in the 2nd half as TJ Wenger had an interception early in the 3rd quarter that led to a score that cut the deficit to 7-6. Later in the game down 13-7, Derrick Mitchell scored on a TD and the 2pt conversion was successful giving Colonel its first lead in the game 14-13. Colonel was able to hang on for the win despite a near game winner on the final play for Cambridge-SD…Next Game: Friday at Lancaster, VA
7. Cambridge-SD (2-2)-The Vikings fell to Colonel Richardson for a 3rd straight season 14-13. The Vikings went up 7-0 in the 1st half on their 3rd offensive drive thanks to a Sterling Perkins TD run that was setup with good field position due to a Colonel fumble of a punt return. C-SD would take the 7-0 lead into the half. QB Blake LaBelle would score a rushing TD after throwing an interception on C-SD’s 1st offensive drive of the second half to put the Vikings up 13-6. Down 14-13 after a short pass hitting Jayden Ferguson on the run in the flats on 3rd down Ferguson then took off and was eventually brought down at Colonel 12. On 4th down (bypassing a FG attempt), a LaBelle pass was just a bit too far for his wide-open TE who got just a little of his hands on it but not enough as the pass fell incomplete and that ended the game...Next Game: Friday vs. Kent County
8. Parkside (1-3)-The Rams got their first win of the year on the road at 1A Kent County 55-6. The Rams were physical, did a good job at executing their assignments and made quick adjustments as Kent County played a 5-3 instead of a 4-3 that they had shown this season on defense. Nasir Holden and James Harmon had TDs; Cameron Johnson had some nice receptions. The Rams started Ethan Waters from the JV team at QB in place of Canaan Mapp who had been filling in for Chris Morandi...Next Game: Friday at James M. Bennett (Salisbury City Championship Game)
9. James M. Bennett (1-3)-The Clippers fell to Queen Anne’s at home 16-0. The game was 10-0 with 22 seconds left when the Lions scored late. HC Greg Lasinski said his team matched Queen Anne’s physicality. He said their defense which is young (including starting 2 Soph. ILB’s) did a good job of stopping the run and had a sack/fumble recovery. Despite the shutout (including an interception suffered in the end zone), Lasinski said the offensive line despite some pass protection issues played well…Next Game: Friday vs. Parkside (Salisbury City Championship Game)
10. Easton (1-3)-The Warriors fell on the road to Kent Island 35-0 including 21 points scored on them in the 2nd quarter. The Warriors are still trying to find an offensive line they feel comfortable with. They started 3 sophomores Friday night and rotated between 7-8 players in total. They also alternated QBs with Kyree Acree and Dustin Blue as their starter Mikey O’Connor was lost for the year due to injury. The offense had just 3 first downs in the game. Next Game: Thursday vs. Stephen Decatur
11. Snow Hill (3-1)-The Eagles lost to Worcester County rival Stephen Decatur on the road 39-0 suffering their first loss of the year. They will look to rebound this week against a winless 1A opponent at home...Next Game: Friday vs. Washington
12. Kent County (0-4)-The Trojans fell at home to 2A Parkside 55-6. KC has been outscored 162-24 this season but to be fair they have had a tough schedule to start the season and it doesn’t get any easier this week as they play a fellow 1A team that defeated their last opponent…Next Game: Friday at Cambridge-SD
13. Washington (0-3)-The Jags had a bye and an opportunity to regroup after the Delmar loss and get ready for their next opponent, a Conference game against a fellow 1A team…Next Game: at Snow Hill
