#7 Parkside (2-6) vs. #10 Kent County (2-6)-6pm-The Rams have had a tough season losing six in a row since starting 2-0. That loss on a Saturday to Queen Anne's back in Week #3 after taking a halftime lead was a tough one and they haven't recovered. The defense has had a rough go of it this season. The offense after starting out hot has cooled. The Trojans come in having won two straight in 1A matchups and overall playing better & more competitive football in the last month. While the Trojans come in confident and also play a physical brand of ball, I don't think they will quite be able to pull off a 3rd straight win. With a very battle tested Rams team at home and hungry for the win I think they have enough physicality and weapons to get the win.
#3 Stephen Decatur (6-2) vs. #11 Snow Hill (2-6)-6pm... In the 'Route 113 Rivalry' in Worcester County the Seahawks come into this one with a big win at Easton last week while the Eagles lost in a shootout to Northampton, VA on the road. The Seahawks are one of the best in the Conference and are simply the more talented team. They also are much more battle tested. The Eagles defense is young and has struggled all year. Decatur finishes the season strong at home.
#13 Washington (0-7) at Arcadia, VA (2-6)-6pm-The Jags are winless and have not scored a point. Arcadia is not having a good year either, but they have 2 wins and have scored 132 points. I have to go with the home team in this one, but we will all be rooting for the Jags to get their first win of the season.
#1 Kent Island (7-1) vs. #2 Queen Anne's (7-1)-6pm-This game has it all, it's the annual 'War on the Shore' for the 'Chesapeake Cup', the winner also will be the '3A/2A Bayside Champion' and will be the #1 Seed in the 2A East for the Playoffs. The last time this game had this much on the line was 2016 when Queen Anne's came in at 8-1 and Kent Island 9-0. QA won that game 21-13 but KI still retained the #1 seed for the playoffs...This game features the two best back RBs in the Conference in KJ Smothers for the Lions and Kasey Heath for the Bucs. No one has even contained Smothers and the same can be pretty much said for Heath. That said Kent Island DC Tim Goodrich is considered one of if not the best defensive minds in the Conference. The Bucs defense is giving up just 11.6 points per game. Remember in Week #1 they were given some short fields against Easton because of offensive TOs. If there is a defense that can at least put some sort of check on Smothers it's KI. Conversely Queen Anne's defense is still trying to work things out and get better especially in the Front 7 and HC Al Waters has been very honest about that since he runs the defense. That could spell trouble for the Lions against Kasey Heath. But they have shown flashes, they do have a strong secondary that starts two freshmen. The defense that can keep the other's stud RB in check will go a long way in helping to win. The other aspects to this are which offense can be more multiple and have other players step up if either back gets contained or shutdown (the latter not likely). Which QB can make some plays better in the air if needed? Both teams are capable of winning this one. They are both well coached. Turnovers obviously will make a difference and Special Teams can never be discounted. The Lions are more battle tested in the last few weeks which will definitely help. However, I will give the edge to the home team Bucs with the best shot at containing Smothers and being able to counter him with Heath if it gets into a shootout. This should be as advertised...This is our Overtime Live-Preston Ford "Friday Night Lights Game of the Week" on 94-3 WINX-FM, forevermidshore.com and the Forever Radio App
#4 Easton (6-2) at #9 Cambridge-SD (4-4)-6pm-In the 'Battle of the Choptank' the Warriors are coming off a loss at home last week in a thrilling game to Decatur. The Warriors are dealing with some injuries to three starters that could be impactful...Cambridge has had a solid season so far with four wins. They are coming off an OT loss to Colonel Richardson last week at home. Easton is one of the top Conference teams, the Warriors are more battle tested, have a big advantage at QB and have as many weapons if not more than Cambridge. Even though the Vikings are at home, and I am sure they will play one of their best games, I am picking the Warriors to win this one.
#6 North Caroline (3-5) vs. #8 Colonel Richardson (6-2)-6pm-This is the battle for the 'Superintendent's Cup' in Caroline County. The Bulldogs have gone through a lot of growing pains this year with a young team. The Colonels have nearly matched their success from last season, first with a winning season, matching last year's win total and winning the Bayside 1A Championship. They also are a somewhat young team. The Colonels have nothing to lose, they have won six in a row and come in confident. They may see this as the year where they can finally take down their rivals. The Bulldogs will have many former players back, are at home, will be highly motivated to finish strong at home against their rivals and maintain their supremacy as top dog in the county. Caroline will need to build on their performance from last week and from the Decatur game from 3 weeks ago. This could very well be the most competitive game between the teams in a while. Caroline's strength is their defense and McCormick has seen this offense every year for years, so he knows how to counter them. The Bulldogs should be able to score enough as well to finish with a win.
#5 Wicomico (5-3) at #12 James M. Bennett (0-8)-6pm-The Indians are looking to win the Salisbury City Championship again this year and with a win will accomplish that against one of their rivals. The Indians are talented especially offensively and have lost some close games to some very good 2A East teams by an average of 7.6 points per game. The Clippers are in another rebuild and while they have shown signs of improvement have not been able to turn it into any wins. The Indians are just too good and are at a different level right now than Bennett and will come away with the victory.
Last Week: 6-1
Season: 54-6
