Week 2 Capsule: Wicomico got Head Coach James Matt McMurdo his first win and both North Caroline and Snow Hill first year head coaches Nic McMorris and Raheem Hammond are off to a 2-0 start. The last time Snow Hill started 2-0 was 2007…The Bayside had a good weekend going 4-2 in non-conference matchups against Western Shore or Eastern Shore of VA teams. Three of the four wins were against Western Shore teams. It was a good showing for the Bayside Conference. You could make an argument for Kent Island to tie or leapfrog Stephen Decatur with the win over City, but I try not to do ties and I still give the advantage to Decatur at QB and the skill positions. That said KI QB Austin Henry has showed well to start the year which will be a tremendous help to the Bucs…Since Queen Anne’s had to forfeit their first game through no fault of the players, I am going to give them one more week at #3 even though they are 0-2. I cannot penalize them for that first loss, and they played a solid non-conference opponent in Week #2 in a close game.

Bayside Conference Football Week #2 Power Poll/Game Notes
1. Stephen Decatur (2-0)-The Seahawks defeated Randallstown 49-8. Decatur had good field position most of the game thanks in part to their defense and a long return on special teams to start the second half thanks to Davin Chandler. QB Brycen Coleman had three TDs in the air to Ethan Bradshaw, Zakhari Baker, and Tribe Wise. He also had a rushing TD. RB Tre Dorn had a rushing TD and DB AJ Kolb had a 100-yard interception return for a TD late in the game. The O-Line played well against a bigger Randallstown front and the defense did its part and put nice pressure on the Rams QB most of the game while also holding down their star WR Kendall Dorsey who has an offer from Division I Minnesota. MLB Sully Auker had two sacks. K Brogan Eastlack was 7-7 on PATs...Next Game: Friday vs. James M. Bennet
2. Kent Island (2-0)-The Bucs defeated City College of Baltimore 31-30 in a thriller in Stevensville. The Bucs led at one point in this one 24-8. KI ran the ball well in the first half with off-tackle and trap plays. The defense put a lot of pressure on the City QB and limited him getting the ball out to both Knights star WRs in the first half. In the second half City loaded nine guys in the box to limit the Bucs running game and City was just able to make offensive plays in the 2nd half that they were unable to in the first. For the Bucs, Shane Bogardus rushed for one hundred yards on 20 carries with two TDs. QB Gavan Henry went 5-9 in the air for 99 yards and 2 TD passes, one for 35yds to Tucker Claxton and the other a 30 yarder to Austin Holland who also had 29 yards on the ground. K Spencer Chappell went 4 for 4 on PATs. Giuseppe Mellinger led the Bucs’ defense, with seven tackles and a sack. Brandon Adler had six tackles, and Connor Byrne and Claxton each had an interception. Oddly, KI lost two punters in the game forcing Henry to quick kick on 4th down…Next Game: Friday vs. Colonel Richardson
3. Queen Anne’s (0-2)-The Lions lost their first game of the season on the field to 3A Chesapeake-AA 21-9. The game was tied at 7 at the half. The Lions scored on their first play of the game on a long jet sweep run by Fr. #2 Jadereon Thompson. The defense played well but the offense struggled in throwing the ball and pass protection. The Lions missed out on some opportunities that they did not capitalize on in the game. OLB/TE/RB Jai Roy missed the game presumably due to injury which was a big blow for the Lions but is expected to be back for this week’s game…Next Game: Friday vs. Wicomico
4. North Caroline (2-0)-The Bulldogs defeated Parkside at home 34-0. The Bulldogs led 14-0 at the half and scored on a fumble return for a TD on the last play of the game which was closer than the score indicated. Both defenses dominated most of the night, but Caroline was able to get points on the board thanks in part to scores from Tyson Weber and Justice Hall. There was also pick six for a TD by the defense... Next Game: Friday vs. Easton (This is our ‘Friday Night Lights’ Game of the Week on 94-3 WINX-FM and the WINX-FM App.
5. Wicomico (1-1)-The Indians defeated Easton on the road 17-3. Both defenses played very well in this one, but WiHi was able to put a little more on the scoreboard. Penalties were an issue for both teams. WiHi QB Takai Hugee took the opening kickoff 96 yards when it looked like Easton had him stopped at his own 5-yard line. The Easton D though shutdown the Indians when they were on offense for the entire first half. However, RB Jordan Hayman would score on an 18-yard run in the 3rd quarter to put WiHi up 14-3 and they would add an FG and fend off the Warriors for the win. The WiHi defense picked off Easton QB Mikey O’Connor (17-35-134) twice but nearly had two more in the game. The Warriors lone score came on a K Jed Smith 31-yard FG, he would later miss a 38 yarder. Easton had just 69 yards rushing and was 5 of 15 on 3rd down...Next Game: Friday at Queen Anne’s
6. Easton (1-1)-The Warriors fell to Wicomico at home 17-3 suffering their first loss of the year. (See Wicomico capsule for more) ...Next Game: Friday at North Caroline
7. Parkside (0-2)-The Rams fell to North Caroline on the road 34-0…The game was 14-0 at the half. Once again TOs hurt the Rams as they had five in the game. Both defenses played very well, and the offenses could not get much traction. Parkside brought pressure and won a fair number of one-on-one battles. Caroline HC Nic McMorris said the Rams were big upfront with speed on the edges making it a challenging night...Next Game: Friday at North Caroline
8. Cambridge-SD (1-1)-The Vikings went on the road and defeated Century (Carroll County) 42-13 in a non-conference matchup to get their first win of the year. They did not make it back to town until 1:30am due to the weather delays. There were a few minutes left on the clock in the 4th quarter, but the game ended after the final lightning alarm. QB Blake LaBelle hit Darren Belizaire in the air for two TDs. Jaden Ferguson (who also had a pick six for a score), Sterling Perkins, and Kayion Marine all had rushing touchdowns...Next Game: Thursday at Parkside
9. Colonel Richardson (1-1)-The Colonels fell on the road in a non-conference matchup to Woodbridge (Bridgeville, DE) 52-12. HC James Jackson said turnovers were a big issue as 6 TOs led to 35 of the Blue Raiders points. He also said their offensive and defensive lines got pushed around. The task gets just as tough if not tougher this week…Next Game: Friday at Kent Island
10. James M. Bennett (1-1)-The Clippers defeated Washington 32-0. The game was called due to lightning with 3 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. Throughout the first two games Bennett has scored 74 points. The offense though will face they’re toughest test so far this week...Next Game: Friday at Stephen Decatur
11. Snow Hill (2-0)-The Eagles are off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2007 after a 26-23 victory over Nandua (VA). The Eagles led 19-7 at one point in this one. Snow Hill scored the winner with no time remaining on a TD pass from Zyheem Collick to WR Jayceere Fields. If it were not for poor tacking on one play where there were about five Eagles defenders surrounding a Nandua RB (but were unable to bring him down) it may not have come down to the very end. The Eagles started Tyler Reddick in place of Alijah Cotton at QB with Cotton moving to WR. Collick, who plays all over the place for Snow Hill and who has played QB in past seasons was brought in on the final drive. Reddick though had two passing TDs and a rushing TD along with some nice scrambles in the game. He also had a big completion down the sideline with the offense backed up to their own goal line on a 3rd and 25 that bought them some valuable real estate and a first down. Reddick did throw an interception early in the 2nd half. HC Raheem Hammond said the key to the defensive success was their proper reading of keys...Next Game: Thursday at Arcadia (ESVA)
12. Kent County (0-2)-The Trojans fell on the road Arcadia (VA) 42-0. The Trojans have had a rough start to the year being outscored 83-12. This year the expectation was the defense was going to be better. The task this week does not get any easier…Next Game: Saturday vs. Seaford (DE)
13. Washington (0-2)-The Jags lost on the road to James M. Bennett 32-0 last Thursday night. The game was called with 3 minutes left in the 2nd quarter due to lightning. It is unfortunate because the Jags need as much live game experience as they can get as they look to overhaul the program...Next Game: Friday at Delmar (DE)
